What is Ear Reshaping or Prominent ear correction (Pinnaplasty or Otoplasty)?

Prominent ears are a very common problem in UK, affecting as many as 2 in 100 people and its psychological impact can be very profound among men. This sort of aesthetic problem can have a real effect on self-esteem, particularly in social situations as prominent ears can be focus for ridicule. Ear correction or reduction surgery or Otoplasty surgery is to resculpt and reshape the ear, is a simple operation which can be performed on most adults. The pin back earssurgery is used to correct prominent ears as well as enlarged or deformed ear lobes.

Otoplasty (Ear Correction/Pinnaplasty) Advantages for Male

Natural looking ears
Improved self-esteem & confidence
Avoid teasing & emotional scars
Permanent results
Observer will likely think that you have a new haircut

However, it is very difficult to achieve symmetry between the two sides and minor difference can occur. In these circumstances, the surgeons that Nu Cosmetic Clinic refer you to may offer a re-operation if required.

Surgery

Otoplasty surgery takes place under general anaesthetic and takes between one and three hours. You should be able to go home the same day. Ear surgery will not leave you with any visible scarring as the incision is made behind the ear. The surgeon manipulates and reshapes the cartilage to create a natural and pleasing look.

Later Progress

As with any surgery, there will be a little redness and soreness but this should fade after around 48 hours. Immediately after the surgery the ears will be completely covered and this dressing should remain in place for 3 – 4 days. In order to ensure that the ear is protected and heals as intended, you will need to wear a special elasticated headband when you sleep for around a month.

Risks & Complications

As with any surgery, there is the small risk of complications with ear correction surgery. At the time of your consultation, the expert we refer you to will take you through the risks in detail so that you can take an informed decision.

They will not push you for surgery. They will give you all the time and guidance you need to take a decision. They will give you a comprehensive Otoplasty Patient Guide to take home with you. This will answer most of your queries and concerns. If you have any further questions, you can give them a call and they will provide their expert advice. You will love them for their honesty, integrity and professionalism.
